چکیده
We have previously developed a conductive hydrogel for use as an intermediate between heart tissue and catheter tips in cardiac ablation, providing more uniform precisely shaped lesion with the goal of minimizing occurrence steam pops repeat procedures arrythmia patients. Characterization gel has involved repeated porcine hearts approximation ablation behavior human models. As this will require testing iterative development to characterize its performance conservative, safe, affordable model is paramount. The phantom mimic visible formation lesions ventricular myocardial upon contact that imparts radiofrequency (RF) energy. To predict mediated hydrogel, we seek produce similar thermally properties tissue. Various materials were prepared evaluated similarity physiological myocardium, visual appeal, ease multiple trials, among other factors. Each was mixed thermochromic pigment (transition temperature 60 C) placed water bath normal saline at 37 C least ten minutes equilibration. Preliminary tests conducted bare catheters alone instead hydrogel. An RF generator set 30 then 50 Watts, Thermocool SF non-irrigated lightly applied surface thirty seconds (Fig 1C). Lesions (white) are formed shown figure silicone black pigment, most successful material combination thus far 1A 1B). Compared prior ex vivo experiments tissue, width depth varied up 22% 76% from values, respectively. A characterization feasible. Further seeks better by selecting or synthesizing matches heart's experimental thermal conductivity designing contain anatomical compartments left region. Characterization of tracked radiofrequency ablation in phantom.
In radiofrequency ablation (RFA), successful therapy requires accurate, image-guided placement of the ablation device in a location selected by a predictive treatment plan. Current planning methods rely on geometric models of ablations that are not sensitive to underlying physical processes in RFA. Implementing plans based on computational models of RFA with image-guided techniques, however, ha...
متن کاملHigh spatial resolution thermal mapping of radiofrequency ablation lesions using a novel thermochromic liquid crystal myocardial phantom.
BACKGROUND Radiofrequency (RF) ablation causes thermal mediated irreversible myocardial necrosis. This study aimed to (i) characterize the thermal characteristics of RF ablation lesions with high spatial resolution using a thermochromic liquid crystal (TLC) myocardial phantom; and (ii) compare the thermochromic lesions with in vivo and in vitro ablation lesions. METHODS AND RESULTS The myocar...
متن کاملI-46: Radiofrequency Ablation of Uterine Fibroids
Uterine fibroids are benign solid tumors that are present in the majority of women. While often asymptomatic, fibroids can result in abnormal uterine bleeding, pelvic pressure, pain, subfertility, dyspareunia and other symptoms. Submucous and intramural fibroids are most associated with heavy menstrual bleeding; subserosal fibroids are more often innocuous unless sufficiently large so as to con...
متن کاملThermochromic phantom for therapeutic ultrasound daily quality assurance
Background/introduction Errors in power output ranging from −100% to +210% have been reported in a multitude of physiotherapy transducers.[1] Differences in power output can arise even after careful calibration on an annual or bi-annual schedule, which can either result in harm to the patient or non-effective treatment. Therefore, easy implementation of daily quality assurance is of great impor...
متن کاملRelative brightness due to temperature changes with ultrasound image analysis during Radiofrequency ablation
Introduction: Diagnosis of primary and secondary cancers to treat patients with diffuse and malignant tumors is an important subject. The appropriate treatment will be eliminating primary and metastatic tumors. Radiofrequency ablation with localized heat induction in the target tissue causes irreversible cellular damage and tissue coagulation. Estimation of tissue temperature c...
